About Cornerstone Church of Augusta
Administrative Secretary
I was born and raised in Augusta County and graduated from Wilson Memorial
High School in 1976. I met my husband Barry shortly after high school and we
were married in 1980. Our son, Jeremy and his wife, Sandi have given us two
precious grandsons, Tristan and Micah. Our daughter, Jessica is still at
home with us and working on a doctorate in physical therapy. Our family began attending
Cornerstone in 1993 and I joined the office staff in September 1994 and have
loved this job like no other. My passion is to serve the Lord in
helping others to become free and to build a personal relationship with Him.
For relaxation, I enjoy camping, riding my Sportster, walking Dolly (our new
'baby') and spending time with
family and friends.
Financial Administrator
I have been a part of Cornerstone Church of Augusta since graduating from
Eastern Mennonite College in 1994. My wife Deb and I have two children,
Kendall and Jordan. Together, we operate a resort cabin business called
Cabin Creekwood. When not
working, I enjoy the outdoors with hiking, fishing, camping, and golf. I
love reading, and would like to spend more time woodworking.
Events Coordinator/Women of Worth
I have the ultimate privilege of being the Pastor’s wife and co-worker in
the Kingdom with Pastor Greg. I also have the ultimate privilege of
mothering two children, Jonathan and Hope. If I am not at the church
planning and overseeing events, I am taking on the daily challenges of keeping a home running,
driving the children to activities, or ministering to women within the
church. My heart is to help women mature in the Lord and to teach them
practically how to walk in confidence-physically, emotionally and
spiritually. I also consider it a great honor to be able to minister in the
same hometown I grew up in.
Senior Pastor
Since deciding to follow
Christ life has been a great adventure. Two years after making that radical
decision I was attending Eastern Mennonite University studying pastoral
ministries. Upon completing my second year of college I married Sherri, my
high school sweetheart. When I graduated from college in 1989 we headed off
to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands to work in an institutional foster
home called Queen Louise Home for Children. We returned in 1991 and began
to attend Cornerstone Church in Rockingham County, Virginia. It was there
that God began to do a deep work in our hearts and to clarify our next
season of ministry. In 1992 we were commissioned to lead a new church plant
in Augusta County. That same year we welcomed our first child, Jonathan,
into our family and two years later our daughter, Hope, would be born. When
not studying for a sermon or leading my gifted ministry staff, I enjoy
sports, fishing, woodworking and hitting the road with my wife on our Harley
Davidson.
Preschool Director
I have been a part of Cornerstone since 1991, first in Mt. Crawford and then
here at our Augusta location. Prior to joining our staff as the Preschool
Director I helped out in the Preschool department teaching, and coordinating
the teaching schedule. In 1989 I married Stan Horst. We have two children,
Kendall and Jordan. Together, Stan and I own and operate a resort cabin
business known as Cabin Creekwood. When I am not working, I enjoy reading,
camping, scrapbooking, and Stampin Up!.
Worship Leader
My wife, Donna, and I are both from this area and were married in 1985 and
our son Brad was born in 1989. We started coming to Cornerstone Church when
Brad was four years old and had been looking for a church fellowship that
really worshipped with all their hearts. We were hungry for that in our
lives and soon realized that this was the church home for our family. My
wife and I got involved with the music ministry early on and I started
leading worship a few years later. In 1999 I took over the music ministry
and became Cornerstone’s Worship Leader. I joined the staff of Cornerstone
part time in 2004 and the next spring I started sensing God calling me to
leave a business I was part owner in so I could minister more here. God’s
timing is everything, and in the fall of 2005, God opened the door for me to
be able to devote all of my energy to the ministry. God has blessed us with
a talented worship team and ability to blend new and old songs as well as
songs written by some of our own members. My family enjoys dinning out,
going to movies and doing things together at home. If I’m not at church or
at home then I’ll be on a golf course whenever I can.
Prayer Coordinator
I joined the Cornerstone team in the Fall of 2006. My passion is prayer and
I love my church family. I married Philip Purvis in May of 1977. Our family
includes Mari & David Johnson & their daughter, Katelyn; Carolyn
& Jerry Schenk & their daughter, Emma Grace, and Chrissy Purvis. In
my spare time I enjoy spending time in a really good book, camping or just
spending time outdoors.
